AC Motor Repair for a Major Synthetic Ropes & Cords Provider

Late on a Friday afternoon, a major provider of steel and synthetic ropes and cords needed assistance when a 168kW AC Motor stopped working and halted production. The product being manufactured was booked to go on a chartered vessel, so the motor needed to be back in operation as quickly as possible to avoid production deadlines being missed. Any delay in meeting these deadlines would have resulted in unnecessary expenses for the customer.

Steel and Synthetic Ropes Case Study

Implementation

Our Emergency team firstly dismantled and inspected the motor and a Baker test was conducted to identify any weaknesses in the motor’s insulation. Based on the results, the decision was made to fully overhaul the motor.

Overhaul

All necessary components were repaired or replaced including the fitting of new bearings. Oil seals and full overhauls of the force vent fan and drum unit were carried out and the asset was reassembled.

Outcome

Laser alignment was carried out with a test run to ensure the motor was operating correctly before returning to the customer. The repair was carried out within 24 hours, enabling the customer to resume production and meet their deadline.
