A Call for Industry-wide Action

Despite the current reporting requirements mandating only large companies to disclose their carbon footprint figures, Houghton International voluntarily shares this information as part of our commitment to sustainability. Looking ahead, we advocate for a broader application of requirements, urging all UK limited companies to disclose their Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions in annual reports. This collective effort would pave the way for transparent and objective data, facilitating more accurate calculations of Scope 3 emissions and enabling informed decisions to integrate carbon reduction into procurement practices.

Why do you include Scope 3 emissions?

We include our scope three emissions as it provides the most accurate number of the businesses’ carbon footprint. Tackling Scope 3 emissions plays a pivotal role in propelling an organisation’s efforts toward decarbonisation and sustainability. Beyond complying with evolving regulatory standards, the assessment of Scope 3 emissions enables us to pinpoint emission hotspots within our value chain. This, in turn, facilitates the prioritisation of reduction strategies.

What is Houghton Internationals carbon footprint?

In a study conducted in 2023, our carbon footprint for 2022 was 6,066.4 tonnes of CO2 equivalent across all scopes.
