Houghton International announces North East Automotive Alliance membership

New Qashqai on the production line

Houghton International recently became the newest member of the North East Automotive Alliance, reinforcing the business’s position as a key member of the automotive supply chain in the North East and beyond.

Launched in 2015, the NEAA is the largest automotive cluster in the UK with over 300 cluster participants, including market leaders such as Nissan, Komatsu, Britishvolt and Mitsubishi Electric. The cluster aims to build upon the region’s significant automotive capability and to firmly establish the North East as a global leader in the automotive industry and a frontrunner in electrification and the development of EV technology.

Houghton International, already a well-established supplier to Nissan and a number of automotive supply chain organisations, delivers repair, maintenance and life extension services for motors, generators, pumps and all electrical rotating equipment, as well as high voltage coil manufacturing, R&D and specialist engineering consultancy. Based in a 135,000 sq ft facility in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the business works with a wide variety of sectors, from rail and hybrid electric buses to manufacturing and power generation.

Chris Robson, sales director at Houghton International, commented: “It’s a really exciting time for the automotive sector in the North East, across the UK and globally. As the industry changes and new technologies are developed, we’re seeing great opportunities for innovation. That’s why we wanted to show our support for the North East Automotive Alliance, who are doing great work to bring together key players and facilitate collaboration.

“At Houghton International we bring over 35 years of cross-sectoral knowledge and expertise to improve asset performance and deliver innovative solutions to industry problems. From new product development and engineering consultancy to repair and maintenance of electro mechanical assets across the supply chain. I’ve no doubt there is a great deal of value Houghton International can add to the automotive industry.”

Paul Butler, CEO at NEAA said: “We are delighted to welcome Houghton International as a new member of the NEAA. As a multinational company with regional heritage and a successful track record across a range of sectors, including automotive, I’m confident they will bring a lot of shared experience into the cluster, and in turn, hope they can maximise further opportunities within the industry.”
