Every year we welcome a new intake of apprentices at Houghton International, who will split their time between college and work over four years until they become fully qualified with a range of industry-recognised qualifications. Apprentices have always been an integral part of Houghton International’s workforce, and they are key to ensuring the future of our business. We are committed to investing in the development of our people so we hire based on attitude then deliver training to ensure our apprentices have the skills they need.
This year we welcome on board six new apprentices, who, after successfully completing the application process, visited Houghton International in August for their induction before starting college in September. All are looking forward to getting started and learning the basics so they can begin working on the shop floor. They will back on site at Easter for their first week of work. We would like to offer a warm welcome to Harrison and Sam, who will be working in our pump services team, Monty and Daniel, who will be working in our rail division, and Matthew and Aidan in our EMS division.
In July we also welcomed our second year apprentices, who now spend four days a week with us after completing their first year of college. James, Joseph and Michael are working in our Rail division, with Aaron and Jordan in EMS and Harry joining the Pumps team.
During their first year the apprentices have received health & safety training and learned the basics they need to get started working on the shop floor. They are now shadowing other members of staff to learn more about their roles, stripping and cleaning parts, and receiving slinging and lifting training. They’re enjoying the chance to gain some practical experience and get to know the teams they are working with.
