Two Houghton International apprentices shortlisted for prestigious EEF award

Two of our talented apprentices have been shortlisted for a prestigious regional apprentice award at this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

The apprentices are all in the running for EEF Apprentice Awards, sponsored by Siemens. The shortlisted apprentices are

  • Martin Dooney, final year apprentice at Houghton International
  • Michael Birkett, year apprentice at Houghton International

They were selected along with other apprentices from across the region after impressing judges with their hard work, dedication and determination to pursue a career in manufacturing.

The apprentices will find out who has been crowned regional winner at a ceremony taking place at Pavilions of Harrogate, Harrogate on 17 November 2016. If successful, they will then go on to compete with other regional winners from across the UK for a national title. This will be announced at an awards gala dinner in London early next year.

Martin Dooney, apprentice at Houghton International, says: “I am still in the early stages of my career, but my apprenticeship has opened up doors and I can see a clear path to working in a sector that I enjoy and where I feel my achievements are valued. I hope that other young people can see this and are inspired to take up an apprenticeship in manufacturing too.”

Martin Hottass, General Manager, Siemens Professional Education UK, says: “This is a great achievement by all of the apprentices. It’s testament to their dedication that they have been shortlisted for these awards.

“Manufacturing is essential to British economic success. These awards recognise the important role and contribution of apprentices and go a small way to recognise the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication that they bring to the sector. It’s great to see all of our shortlisted apprentices’ efforts being recognised and I wish them the best of luck at the regional awards ceremony.”
