Houghton International is delighted to have been shortlisted for the Best Places to Work Awards for the second year running. Nominated in the Best Medium Company category, we will be attending the awards ceremony on 13th June where the top 50 employers in the North East will be announced.
The awards, launched in 2018, are judged on a number of criteria, including the role the business plays in the community; perks, benefits and bonuses offered to staff; looking after staff health; and efforts to provide a good work-life balance.
In 2017 we launched our ‘People Strategy’ to improve and embed our HR&D processes across the business, with the aim of making Houghton International an employer of choice within the North East and beyond. The launch of our People Strategy has resulted in a number of changes across the business, including the introduction of new benefits and perks, a more transparent, structured competency management and salary banding system, and regular health surveillance checks.
Since the launch of our People Strategy we have seen consistent improvement in scores from our annual Employee Opinion Survey, and now 97% of employees tell us they think Houghton International is a great place to work. As we continue to strive to make Houghton International an excellent workplace, it’s great to see external recognition from the likes of Best Places to Work Awards and the North East Business Awards.
