Industry recognition for Houghton International apprenticeship programme

Houghton International were recognised at the inaugural AEMT awards last week, taking top prize in the ‘Contribution to Skills & Training’ category for our apprenticeship programme.

The AEMT Gala Awards Dinner showcased the very best achievements from the entire electrical and mechanical trades sector in a global celebration of business and professional excellence.

Chris Robson, Sales and Marketing Director at Houghton International who collected the award on behalf of the company, commented: “We are delighted to have been recognised by the AEMT and our peers. We are extremely proud of our well-established apprenticeship programme and the results it delivers for our apprentices, our business and the industry as a whole.

“At Houghton International everyone matters and we are committed to providing our apprentices with a high quality education in a hands on working environment. We recognise that people are our most important asset and our apprentice programme has been an integral part of our growth from its inception 30 years ago. Investing in the future of our business is important in order to ensure we have the skills to continue to grow and many former apprentices have gone onto senior roles within the business, supporting both business growth and the training of new apprentices.

“Six new apprentices joined us this year and we will continue to invest in staff development year on year. As the business grows it is vital that we have the right mix of experienced operational and support staff to ensure that we continue to deliver the high quality, specialist services our customers expect from us.”

We also proactively seek to optimise opportunities for apprentices to develop including an Apprentice Exchange Programme with our customers to aid development and build the knowledge of both groups of apprentices.
