In October, members of the Houghton International team headed over to Sunderland’s Beacon of Light to exhibit at Bring It On! North East, a STEM event for children and young people from across the North East and beyond.
The two-day event is a collaboration of national and regional organisations aiming to help reduce the skills gap within engineering by inspiring young people at the grassroots level. Using videos, activities and games, the team aimed to get attendees excited about engineering and increase awareness of the electro mechanical engineering industry.
The children had the opportunity to learn more about electromagnets and see what goes on inside an electric motor, whilst also learning about the wide variety of applications for rotating electrical machines and why they are so important to our everyday lives. They showed great enthusiasm, and were keen to ask questions and learn more about Houghton International.
From events like Bring It On! to our industry-leading apprenticeship scheme, Houghton International recognises how important it is to continue to inspire young people and give them the tools they need to become the next generation of engineers. Engaging with young people and demonstrating opportunities for a varied and exciting career is key to ensuring our industry continues to grow and attract new talent.
