The North East, Yorkshire and Humberside winners of the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2016 were announced at a celebration lunch on the 17th November 2016 at the Pavilions of Harrogate, Harrogate. Hosted by BBC presenter, Wendy Gibson, the event celebrated the very best of British Manufacturing!
Two of our apprentices Michael Birkett and Martin Dooney were shortlisted in the EEF apprentice category, with Martin being awarded ‘highly commended’ for his development to date.
The apprentice award is new this year and has been developed for Intermediate and Advanced level apprentices who have done the most to seize the training and development opportunities presented to them during the final year of their Apprenticeship programme, and who have made significant contribution to support the business activities of their employer. All entries were judged by independent industry experts and peers; who are the most established and respected of their kind – giving real recognition to those that demonstrate a commitment to the future of UK manufacturing. The awards are open to all UK manufacturers and businesses operating within the supply chain.
Pamela Lamming, HR Manager at Houghton International, commented: “It is fantastic to see not one but two of our apprentices shortlisted in such an award. This is great recognition for their continued determination and commitment to develop within their field – well done to both Martin and Michael for their achievements.
“At Houghton International we recognise that apprentices are the future of our business and invest in their development, however it’s just as vital that the apprentices also invest in themselves and these awards demonstrate what can be achieved and it’s great to see that recognised in such a positive way.”
