Rail servicing agreement signals success for aftermarket specialist

Houghton International and ZF AftermarketWe have joined forces with ZF Aftermarket to provide rail customers with a comprehensive repair and service offering for traction motors, gearboxes and transmissions, initially focusing on the light rail market.

After working in the rail sector for over 40 years, the new framework agreement complements ZF Aftermarket’s own repair, maintenance and overhaul capabilities, offering ZF customers access to Houghton International’s expertise in the servicing of AC & DC rail traction motors and motor alternators (MA). Specialising in life extension and re-engineering, both companies have in-depth in-house technical knowledge and facilities.

The complete rail drive system project management package combines the experience of both organisations to provide customers with an enhanced service, all in one place. Offering simplified access to service, repair and maintenance of traction motors, gearboxes and transmissions, as well as product support, technical advice and condition monitoring services, customers can benefit from improved service performance, efficiency and cost reductions as a result.

Wayne Baxter, Rail Business Manager at ZF Aftermarket, explained: “We’re constantly listening to the feedback of our customers to enhance the service we provide, and when we began to receive more enquiries about traction motors, we identified the need for a complete service that catered for both rotating electrical machines and Final Drives. We met Houghton International at Innotrans and instantly recognised them as an ideal partner in making the repair and overhaul process simpler for all our respective customers.

“Houghton International is very well established in the industry and its service offering complements our own expertise. This agreement not only streamlines the repair and overhaul process for our customers but enables them to tap into the expertise of Houghton International.”

Chris Robson, Sales and Marketing Director at Houghton International, commented: “We’re pleased to be working with ZF Aftermarket to bring our customers this new solution, which will make it easier and more cost effective to access specialist gearbox and traction motor services. There are a lot of synergies between our companies and we can offer a high quality and competitive solution.”
