Houghton International customers win big at the Golden Spanners awards

The efforts of train maintenance teams, depots and rolling stock leasing companies were once again celebrated at the Golden Spanners Awards for train reliability on 27 November 2015, held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

Chris Robson, technical account manager at Houghton International, commented: “It’s great to support such a competitive event and it’s even better to see our customers pick up the top awards for performance.

“We understand performance and reliability is vital for our customers and work with them to ensure their traction motors and other electro mechanical assets are maintained to the highest standards to prevent technical incidents from occurring.

“Our HiTRAX insulation system, utilised by South West Trains and Abellio Greater Anglia who both picked up Gold spanners at the awards, has been running across the UK’s rail system for longer than 12 years without a single failure. We believe this is testament to the quality and reliability of our services and our customers and the statistics agree.”

Modern Railways’ Industry & Technology Editor, Roger Ford, was in charge of proceedings, analysing the results and handing out the trophies.

Three awards are given in each category:

• Gold Spanner – most reliable train based on Miles per Technical Incident (MTIN)

• Silver Spanner – most improved fleet (percentage improvement in MTIN)

• Bronze Spanner – fastest incident recovery (based on primary delay per incident)
