Houghton International celebrate the best of rolling stock maintenance

The Golden Spanners awards celebrate the best of rolling stock maintenance and are handed out to those companies making the greatest strides in train reliability, as measured by MTIN (Miles per Technical Incident). The awards took place on 25 November 2016 and were held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

Chris Robson, technical account manager at Houghton International, commented: “We have been involved with the Golden Spanner awards for several years now and it’s great to see the efforts of train maintenance teams, depots and rolling stock leasing companies celebrated.

“We know how much effort goes into the maintenance of rolling stock and understand that performance and reliability is vital. We work with our customers to ensure their traction motors and other electro mechanical assets are maintained to the highest standards to prevent technical incidents from occurring and it’s great to be able to celebrate their achievements with them.”

The awards are based on moving annual averages at Period 7 (four weeks ending mid October). The source of the statistics on which the Golden Spanners awards are based is the ReFocus programme run by the Association of Train Operating Companies. This is part of Fleet Challenge, which is responsible for rolling stock performance within the cross-industry National Task Force. This was set up by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in the late 1990s following concerns about punctuality.
